Resolution is the image intensifier's or night vision system's ability to distinguish between objects close together. Image intensifier resolution is measured in line pairs per millimeter (lp/mm). Typically, the smaller the line pair, the better the image resolution
US Air Force 1951 tri-bar resolution chart is used to determine image intensifier resolution. In practice, the chart has line pairs and user reads the smallest element observed with distinct image contrast what indicates the approximate resolution limit.
Resolution is the second important figure when calculating FOM (figure of merit) to determine the overall performance of the image intensifier tube.
